Three student achievers of KIIT – sprinters Amiya Kumar Mallick, Dutee Chand and Chess star Aparajita Gochhikar – were felicitated by Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for their remarkable success. They brought laurel to KIIT as well as to the state of Odisha and India by winning medals in different events organized recently. Dutee Chand and Amiya Mallick broke National Records in 100m sprint in women’s and men’s events respectively on Day 1 of Federation Cup.

Amiya won the gold at the first leg of the Indian Grand Prix earlier this month. He was hand timed in the 100m final as having run the race in 10.09 seconds, the fastest ever by an Indian. Two national records were shattered with sprinter Dutee hogging the limelight on the opening day of the Federation Cup National Athletics Championships in New Delhi. She clocked 11.33 secs in women’s 100m dash to win.

Similarly, Aparajita Gochhikar has won silver medal in the women’s category in World Amateur Chess Championship held in Greece recently with a score of 6.5 points. Gochhikar also bagged bronze in the open category.
