22nd Asian Athletics Championships 2017
KIIT, KISS Announce Cash Incentive for Medal Winners from Odisha

The 22nd Asian Athletics Championships 2017 is the biggest sporting event being held in Odisha. As many as 815 athletes from 45 countries will be participating in various events. It is a pride for both Odisha and Odia people that this mega sports event is being organized for the first time in Odisha. Many Odia athletes are also participating in this mega event. It is a chance for the Odia athletes.

KIIT and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has announced to reward the athletes from Odisha who manage to win medal in the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships 2017 commencing in Bhubaneswar from July 5, 2017. Odia athletes winning Gold, Silver and Bronze medal will be given cash incentive of Rs. 3 lakh, Rs. 2 lakh and 1.5 lakh respectively, said Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS.   

“This financial incentive for the successful athletes is part of the continuous endeavour of KIIT & KISS to encourage sportspersons and promote sports in Odisha”, Dr. Samanta said, while congratulating all Odia athletes and wishing them success.

Salters Chemistry Camp in KIIT

The Royal Society of Chemistry India and Salters Institute, UK conducted a three-day residential Chemistry Camp for Class IX students at KIIT University, Bhubaneswar from June 20 – 22, 2017. The Camp was inaugurated by Prof. Sudarshan Nanda, Professor of Eminence & Research Chair, KIIT University and Prof. B. K. Patel, HAG Professor & Head, Department of Chemistry, IIT Guwahati. This is the first time that theSalters Chemistry Camp was conducted in Odisha.  

The aim of the Salters Chemistry Camps is to promote appreciation for chemistry by providing school students from diverse backgrounds, an opportunity to explore practical chemistry and inspire them to pursue chemistry at university and further. Around 60 school students from various parts of Odisha participated in the residential Camp, that infused fun in learning chemistry and motivated students to develop both – an awareness of and a long-term interest in chemical sciences.

The Salters’ Chemistry Camps India, part of the “Inspirational Chemistry Programme” project, is supported by Dr. Yusuf Hamied, Non-executive Chairman, Cipla, a leading Indian philanthropist and pioneer in the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Hamied has committed Rs. 8 crore for this five-year programme which includes training of the school teachers as well.

Along with conceptual theory classes by legendary chemists, the Salters Chemistry Camp provided an action-packed programme including hands-on practical activities in University labs, exciting chemical demonstrations, the chance to meet like-minded students, and a taste of hostel life in the University. Importantly, the camp activities were delivered in the local language, Odia.

The students were encouraged to handle the chemistry practicals in presence of six teacher-mentors, six demonstrators and six research students, who introduced them the finer aspects of the subject. In addition, they were inspired by the informative presentations by Prof. B. K. Patel, Dr. C. S. Purohit, NISER, Bhubaneswar and Dr. Sabita Nayak, Revenshaw University. The programme also included visit to Planetarium, National Museum and Science Park, Bhubaneswar.

The student participants and their guardians expressed gratitude to Ms. Bhakti Dhamdhere, Coordinator, Salters’ Chemistry Camp and Dr. Anita Pati, Local Coordinator for organizing such an educative, informative and inspiring camp for the students.

KIIT observes "International Day of Yoga"

International Yoga Day was celebrated in KIIT & KISS at KIIT Cricket Stadium on 21st June, 2017. Thousands of Staff, students and teachers of KIIT & KISS assembled at 6:45 am in KIIT ground for practice Yoga. At 7:00am Yoga starts as per schedule of national yoga ceremony. In KIIT the Yoga practice was lead by Founder, KIIT & KISS Dr. Achyuta Samanta. Inaugurating the International Yoga Day Dr. Samanta said, Yoga is the only way to free our body and mind from various illnesses. Yoga is a journey through the inner ‘self’ to connect to the supreme soul. Yoga and meditation are essential for every human as it relaxes mind and resists body, he added.

The United Nations has declared June 21, as the International Yoga Day for the first time. As many as 192 countries were participated in International Yoga Day. It is a matter of pride for all Indians that yoga which is part of our culture is getting such attention on an international platform.

Then different yet common yoga asanas were carried out by the students and staff members assembled for the purpose. Later, some extraordinary yoga asanas were demonstrated by two students of KISS. At the end, Dr. Gaganendu Dash, Director, Sports, proposed Vote of Thanks.

KIIT Felicitates IAS Topper Suman Saurav Mohanty

KIIT felicitated its alumnus and 9th rank holder in the UPSC Civil Services Examination Suman Saurav Mohanty at a special ceremony here on June 7, 2017. He was a 2008 batch student of B.Tech Mechanical Engineering of KIIT University.

“Suman has not only brought glory to KIIT, but also to the State of Odisha. His success will motivate and inspire coming batches of the University”, said Prof. Achyuta Samanta, Founder KIIT & KISS. He also felicitated his father Shri Santanu Kumar Mohanty, a retired OAS officer and mother Smt. Kabita Mohanty.

After passing out from KIIT University, Suman got job offers from Wipro and Reliance Energy through campus placement. He joined Reliance Energy and worked in this company for four years. He briefly worked with the Govt. of Odisha before joining Odisha Administrative Service (OAS). Later, he cleared UPSC Civil Services Examination and joined Indian Revenue Service (IRS). However, he was pushed by his mother to try again for Indian Administrative Service. His hard work and patience was rewarded when he secured 9th rank in his next attempt.           

Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Suman said, “I owe my success to the blessings of God, my family, particularly my mother, and ethos and values learnt at KIIT”. Revealing that he was asked about the process of empowerment in Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in the interview, he stated, “I have learnt humility and dedication from the Founder of KIIT & KISS. I am grateful to my teachers who are strict and caring at the same time. I want to see KIIT University as the top University of the world”.

Among others, Secretary, KIIT & KISS, Shri R. N. Dash, Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. P. Mathur and Registrar, Prof. Sasmita Samanta also spoke on the occasion.  

KiiT International School Excels in CBSE 10th Exam

KiiT International School (KiiT-IS), a constituent of KIIT Group of Institutions, has posted excellent result in the Class 10 examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, which were published on Saturday. All the students are placed in First division with 30% students has scored CGPA 10, while more than 50 % students secured CGPA 9. With this KiiT International School repeats the history.

Parents of students studying in KiiT International School have heaped praise on it for achieving excellent result in the board examinations and winning national and international accolades in the midst of several thousand public schools.

Expressing satisfaction over the achievement, while thanking Chairperson of the School, Dr. Mona Lisa Bal and Principal Dr. Sanjay Suar and students of KiiT international School, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS said, high standard teaching learning process and value education system imparted in this School proves the international standard of the school.

Three KIIT Alumni Crack Civil Services Exam 2016

Three KIIT Alumni Suman Saurav Mohanty and Avishyant Panda from Odisha and Haris Bin Zaman from Bihar cracked the prestigious Civil Services Examination 2016, result of which was declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on May 31, 2017. Suman, a student of B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering 2008 batch, secured 9th rank, while Avishyant and Haris were placed in 91st and 646th rank respectively. Avishyant passed out in 2011 and Haris in 2012 in B. Tech Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering.

After getting the news Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT and KISS congratulated them for their success over telephone. “It is remarkable that three students of one institution have cracked the Civil Services Exam in the same year. Only four years of exposure in KIIT helped them secure high ranks in Civil Services Exam”, he said. In the coming years, many more students of the University will get success in this exam, he added.

Students and alumni of KIIT University expressed their pleasure after getting the news. It will inspire and provide motivation to them, they said. The faculty members and staff of KIIT University also expressed their happiness over this success of the alumni. These three students have been invited to a special felicitation function at KIIT.

Many students of KIIT have got success in Civil Service Exam in previous years. The University has established a School of Leadership to prepare the students for this exam.
