World Mental Health Day 2026  |  10 October 2026

From schools to hostels, KIIT Deemed to be University took mental health awareness to where students study, live and connect. Its week-long World Mental Health Day 2026 campaign reached an estimated 3,000–4,000 students across more than 40 schools and hostels.

Led by the University Student Counselling Cell (USCC) under the guidance of Prof. Pranab Mahapatra, Director, USCC, the campaign went beyond classroom talks and auditorium events to connect directly with students.

OUR REACH AT A GLANCE

40+

schools and hostels reached

3,000–4,000

estimated students reached through outreach

600+

students reached through Tutor-Mentor awareness initiatives

EIGHT CLUSTERS. MANY WAYS TO CONNECT.

The eight Cluster Counsellors brought energy and fresh ideas to the campaign. Wellness board games, interactive activities, talks, group discussions, debate competitions, movie screenings, music, singing and short awareness messages gave students many ways to take part and reflect. Across all eight clusters, the team’s creativity and commitment kept the focus on reaching students.

TUTOR-MENTORS: ANOTHER WAY TO REACH STUDENTS

Tutor-Mentor awareness initiatives reached 600+ students, sharing information on counselling and mental health support during regular sessions. Guided by Prof. Prachet Bhuyan, Director, Tutor-Mentor System (TMS), this effort used the existing student-support network to help students know where to turn for support.

Awareness leaflets with support and helpline details were also placed at the KIMS Psychiatry OPD and the Central Library, making information easier to find.

MORE THAN A DAY. AN ONGOING COMMITMENT.

The campaign encouraged students to care for their emotional wellbeing, manage stress, challenge stigma and seek help early. Its message was simple: every student should know where help is available and feel comfortable reaching out.

This week-long effort is a step towards making mental health awareness part of everyday campus life. USCC will continue reaching more students, starting conversations and bringing information about support closer to them throughout the year.
