Code of Conduct of Boarders

  1. All boarders are required to maintain standards of behavior expected out of boarders of a prestigious University such as ours. They are expected to behave courteously and fairly with everyone both inside and outside the campus.
  2. All boarders are required to carry their valid Identity Cards issued to them.
  3. The rooms, common areas and surroundings should be kept clean and hygienic. Notices or posters shall not be pasted on walls and walls shall not be scribbled on.
  4. The return time to the hostels will be notified by the Director / Joint Director at the beginning of the Academic Year.
  5. All the boarders are expected to be in the hostel before the expiry of the entry time notified. If any boarder wishes to be away from the hostel during the weekend, holidays or any other time, he / she has to take prior permission from the Director / Joint Director.
  6. Room allotted to the boarder is on his / her personal responsibility. He / she should see to the upkeep of his / her room, hostel and its environment. Boarders should bring to the notice of the Manager / Dy. Manager / Asst. Manager for all routine maintenance works (Civil, Carpentry and Electrical), if any, to be carried out in their rooms.
  7. Boarders should co-operate in carrying out maintenance work and vacate their rooms completely when the authority requires the rooms for this purpose. On such occasions, the management will try to provide alternate accommodation. If any maintenance work is to be carried out when the room is under occupation, it is the occupant’s responsibility to make the room available for the same.
  8. The boarders should not screen movies in their computers and common rooms.
  9. The boarders of the room is responsible for any damage to the property in the room during his / her occupancy of that room and will be required to make good the damage, if any. He / she is required to fill in the inventory of the furniture and other items available and hand over the furniture & other materials in good condition when he / she changes / vacates the room / hostel.
  10. In case of damage to or loss of hostel property the cost will be recovered from the boarders responsible for such damage or loss, if identified, or from all the boarders of the hostel, as decided by the Authority.
  11. The resident shall not move any furniture from its proper allotted place and also not damage them in anyway. If there are any additional items other than the above belonging to the hostel in a room, the occupant of the room shall hand over them to the Manager / Dy. Manager / Asst. Manager, failing which he / she will be charged a penal rent as decided by the Authority. The resident shall not remove any fittings from any other room and get them fitted in his / her room.
  12. The boarders are required to sign the furniture and fixture register before the occupation of the room. In case of any damage, the cost and a fine amount proportionate to the damage shall be levied by the authority.
  13. Ragging and harassment in any form of boarders admitted to the University is totally banned. Any violation of this by the boarders will be dealt with very severely.
  14. All boarders are encouraged to report incidents of ragging if they happen to see such thing. Those who do not do so even when being witnesses or victims, can also be punished suitably.
  15. When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, collective punishment could be resorted to as a possible deterrent measure, as it would ensure community pressure on the potential raggers not to indulge in ragging.
  16. All boarders are required to furnish Anti-Ragging Affidavit (both the boarder and parents)
  17. Smoking and consumption of alcoholic drinks and / or narcotic drugs in the hostel premises is strictly prohibited. Boarders shall not enter the hostel premises in intoxicated state and should not possess any such materials. Severe action will be taken if any boarder is found to violate this, resulting in expulsion from hostels and rustication from the University. Depending on the case, the management reserves the right to take direct disciplinary action, amounting to even expulsion at short notice from the hostel.
  18. Employing unauthorized persons for personal work such as washing clothes, etc., is not permitted. Members of the mess staff should not be asked to enter the boarders residence area on any account.
  19. Boarders from one hostel are not permitted to enter into other hostels
  20. Any boarder found hosting / harboring an offender will be also liable to the disciplinary action
  21. Boarders cannot participate in any anti-national, antisocial or undesirable activity in or outside the campus.
  22. The visit of a person of the opposite sex to the hostel is restricted.
  23. Parties, birth day celebration, social or political gatherings in the hostel complex are completely banned inside the hostel.
  24. The boarders will be allowed to stay out of the hostel on submission of proper application duly authorized by parent and only if the permission granted in writing by the Director / Joint Director.
  25. A hostel campus should be a place where boarders can have the best possible conditions for studying and adequate rest. Noise level must be kept low to allow other’s the opportunity to study or sleep in comfort. Television, Radio etc provided in the common room must be switched off or volume toned down after 10:00 pm.
  26. In case of any unacceptable behavior by the room-mate, the other room-mate must report it to the hostel authorities.
  27. Boarders are responsible for keeping their rooms and the common areas in the hostel such as visitor’s area, bathrooms, stair case, and common room etc clean and tidy at all times.
  28. All fans, lights and electrical appliances must be switched off when not in use.
  29. Pets are not allowed in the hostel complex.
  30. Non boarders are prohibited in the hostel without the permission of the Director / Joint Director / Chief Warden. The boarder who encourages this is liable for disciplinary action.
  31. All instructions / notices displayed on hostel notice boards will be deemed to have been read by all boarders and excuses for non-compliance of such instructions and notices will not be accepted. Boarders are advised to look at the notice board / student self service (SAP Portal) everyday to acquaint themselves with latest information / orders.
  32. Boarders must register their movement in the Attendance system maintained in the hostel reception while they are entering into or going out of the hostel.
  33. Water is an essential but scarce commodity. All boarders should use water judiciously and preserve it. Leakage etc. in the bathrooms should be immediately reported in the reception.
  34. The boarders must give adequate attention to the studies. Study Hour will be maintained in the hostel in which no boarder is allowed to visit others room or interfere in their studies. The hour will be notified by the Director / Joint Director from time to time. Complaints from other boarders will be investigated and severe disciplinary action will be taken.
  35. When the boarders go out, they should plan to return to the campus before the stipulated time.
  36. Boarders should avoid visiting hotels in the city, especially at night.
  37. Boarders are not allowed to involve themselves in any betting or gambling either inside or outside the hostel. This will invite stringent disciplinary action.
  38. Boarders are not allowed to stay in the hostel during the class hours unless their stay is unavoidable due to illness or any other valid reason. In such cases they should take the permission of the Director / Joint Director.
  39. The boarders shall not indulge in any act of theft, immoral acts, misbehavior, spread of regionalism, communalism and casteism etc.
  40. The boarders are not allowed to play out door games other than those allowed by the Director / Joint Director in the hostel premises.
  41. Playing of colors or bursting of crackers inside the hostel is banned. This will invite severe disciplinary action.
  42. Visit to places like sea beaches, water fall area, reservoir area, tanks and ponds etc. where there is potential danger to the life and security of the boarder is banned.
  43. The boarders shall observe 10.00 PM to 6.00 AM as silence hours.
  44. Every information about every boarder will be intimated to their respective parents and guardians
  45. Marketing / Sales of any kind of product is not allowed inside the hostel complex, however prior permission has to be taken from Director.
  46. Prior permission has to be taken for putting up posters / banners inside the hostel complex Director / Joint Director.
  47. Boarder entering inside other hostel and creating Nuisances / Disturbance / Manhandling / Physical assault at any form will attract Disciplinary Action and monetary fine will imposed upon fellow upon fellow boarder or group of boarders.
  48. Use of Dendrite and Eraz-ex is not allowed inside hostel however other kind of adhesive (i.e Fevicol , Fevistick etc) is allowed.
  49. Outside orders (i.e Food / or any other Parcel orders) will not be allowed inside the hostel after 8.00 pm.
  50. As KIIT has been declared Tobacco-free, Smoke-free and Alcohol-free Campus, any boarder found disobeying the rule in the hostel room / campus will be punished seriously.
  51. Sales of any kind of food items, stationery items, narcotic items or any other items are banned in the hostel premises.
