Overview of Workshop
India ranks third globally with about 6,000 large dams, underscoring the critical importance of dam safety and management. The Second International Workshop on Dam Safety (IWDS 2025) is envisioned as a continuation of the successful IWDS 2024, building on the solid foundation laid to tackle key challenges in dam safety and resilience. IWDS 2025 will bring dam professionals and experts from various inter-related disciplines within India and worldwide. Expanding on last year’s discussions, IWDS 2025 will focus on providing a comprehensive overview of the current state of dam safety in India, addressing the challenges and opportunities for improvement. The workshop will showcase advanced geophysical techniques and the use of underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for effective dam health assessment. It will also facilitate indepth discussions on the latest rehabilitation techniques, sedimentation management strategies, and the development of robust emergency action plans. Additionally, IWDS 2025 will serve as a platform for professionals from diverse fields to exchange ideas, share experiences, and collaborate on innovative solutions to enhance dam safety. Through these objectives, the workshop seeks to advance the field of dam safety by integrating cutting-edge technologies and fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration, ultimately equipping participants with the knowledge and tools to address the complex challenges facing the sector
The IWDS 2025 will feature Plenary, Technical, and Industry Sessions. Eminent dam safety professionals will deliver valuable presentations during the Plenary Sessions. The Technical Sessions will include presentations covering various facets of dam safety, such as advanced geophysical techniques, the innovative use of underwater ROVs for dam health assessments, and cutting-edge rehabilitation techniques. Key issues like morphological impacts, sedimentation, seepage, flash floods, and debris accumulation will also be addressed. The participants will experience areal-world dam monitoring and rehabilitation scenarios during the field visit. Additionally, live demonstrations of the latest dam health monitoring equipment will be conducted. National and overseas organizations will showcase contemporary developments in technologies, construction materials, products, instrumentation, and services in an exhibition at the venue. Several international experts and organizations of repute have agreed to participate, ensuring a diverse and enriching experience.
