G20 Overview

The Group of Twenty (G20) is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. It plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global architecture and governance on all major international economic issues. India holds the Presidency of the G20 from 1 December 2022 to 30 November 2023.

KIIT’s Role in G 20

KIIT Deemed to be University as a university of compassion, humanitarianism, and outreach, is actively involved at various levels in the G20 engagement groups. One of the engagement groups that KIIT Group of Institutions is involved in is Digital 20 (D20). KIIT’s expertise in digital technology makes it a valuable contributor to the D20’s discussions and recommendations. Another engagement group that KIIT participates in is Think 20 (T20). The research capabilities and expertise in various fields make it an important contributor to the T20’s work.KIIT is also involved in Youth 20 (Y20). KIIT’s experience in youth engagement and empowerment is highly valuable to the Y20’s mission.Besides, KIIT is involved in Civil 20 (C20), which brings together civil society organizations to provide recommendations to the G20 on issues related to social justice, human rights, and development. KIIT and KISS have a strong commitment to compassion and humanitarianism and this aligns well with the C20’s objectives. KIIT’s active participation in various G20 engagement groups demonstrates its commitment to global issues and its desire to contribute to meaningful discussions and recommendations. Its involvement in the D20, T20, Y20, and C20 engagement groups reflects its dynamic and diverse capabilities as a university.

Y 20 Consultation

The Group of Twenty(G20) Leadership Summit is the forum of International economic cooperation. In strengthening major economic problems across the world, G20 leadership summit plays a vital role. In 2023, India is holding the G20 presidency with the theme as Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam or One Earth, One Family, One Future. As part of G20 Leadership Summit, Youth20 (Y20) summit is being organized for the engagement of youth across the world. The summit focuses on five themes namely, Future of Work- Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction; Peace Building and Reconciliation; Youth in Democracy; Health, Wellbeing and Sports. The main agenda of the Y20 summit is to encourage and empower the youth of the world to discuss and identify the problems and recommend a framework, policies required to solve the prevailing problems across the world to be addressed during the official G20 Leadership Summit.

KIIT deemed to be University is organizing the Y20 Consultation on 14th and 15th April 2023 with the topics Future of Work : Industry 4.0 , Innovations and Future Skills, Empowering young Scientists in Governance, Designing Disruptive Technologies, Making Sustainability A Way of Life, Health, Wellbeing & Sports : Agenda for youth, Designing Resilient Working Community, Designing Resilient and Peaceful Cities.

C20 Working Group Summit

Civil20 (C20), as an official Engagement Group of the G20, provides a platform for civil society organisations (CSOs) to contribute to G20 deliberations, including through the submission of a C20 Policy Pack to the G20. During India’s Presidency of the G20 under the guidance of the C20 Chair, Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, the C20 is addressing several priority areas organised into 14 Working Groups that will provide Policy Briefs for inclusion in the C20 Policy Pack. The Working Group on Gender Equality & Disability (GED WG), coordinated by Dr Bhavani Rao, Meg Jones and Nidhi Goyal, is one such group, that, through a series of policy dialogues with over 1600 CSOs from more than 100 countries, has secured policy recommendations on 8 sub-themes under GED. As part of the process of refining and prioritising recommendations to be submitted to the C20 Sherpa for consideration for inclusion in the C20 Policy Pack, the C20 Working Group on Gender Equality and Disability Summit is scheduled to take place on 22-23 April 2023, generously hosted by Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology in Bhubaneswar, India.

The expected output will be three recommendations per sub theme from which the GED WG Coordinators will identify four key policy recommendations to include in the GED WG Policy Brief. The eight sub themes under GED are:

  3. Engaging Men & Boys
  4. Environment & Disasters
  5. Physical & Mental Health
  6. Safety & Security
  7. Society & Culture
  8. Disability

Think 20 Youth Engagement 

Think20 (T20) is an official Engagement Group of the G20. It serves as an “idea bank” for the G20 by bringing together think tanks and high-level experts to discuss policy issues relevant to the G20. T20 recommendations are synthesized into policy briefs and presented to G20 working groups, ministerial meetings, and leaders’ summit to help the G20 deliver concrete policy measures.

Jan Bhagidari

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University is entrusted by Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Govt. Of India to act as one of the Anchor Institutions to organise “Jan Bhagidari” Events to raise awareness and imbibe the spirit of participation and ownership with India’s G20 presidency in the state.

Lectures, workshops, and contests on a range of topics will be part of the Jan-Bhagidari events. In addition, there will be programmes for planting trees and a cyclothon. Regional cuisines will be promoted at the food festival, along with the Swachhta campaign and programmes on the “Tribes of Odisha” that will highlight indigenous crafts.
