Sustainable Procurement Policy

Introduction :

Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) Deemed to be University lays high emphasis of the targets set by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and has formulated a Sustainable Procurement Policy for itself which is being duly implemented. This policy applies to all internal stakeholders of the University who make purchases on behalf of the University.

Sustainable Procurement Principles :

  • We shall prioritize products and services that have a lower environmental impact, including those with reduced energy consumption, resource-efficient materials, and eco-friendly packaging.
  • All equipments, machineries and items procured should have been assessed to have minimum negative impact on environment, pollution and lifestyle of the students and staffs as well as community living around the University, and should be aligned with the Environmental Policy of the country.
  • Recycling of materials and wastes in the University should be maximized to cut down the demand index and promote green technologies in different operations of the University.
  • Procurements and use of paper and ink should be minimized through use of digital platforms, networking and process automation.

  • All purchases should be done so as to ensure the carbon footprint of the University is minimized.

Implementation Guidelines :

  • Supplier Evaluation and Selection: During supplier evaluation and selection, sustainability criteria will be incorporated into the decision-making process. Suppliers will be evaluated based on their environmental, social, and ethical performance, in addition to traditional considerations like quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Sustainable Product Standards: We will develop and adopt specific standards and guidelines for sustainable products and services. These standards will be used to identify environmentally friendly alternatives and set benchmarks for procurement decisions.
  • Employee Training and Awareness: Regular training and awareness programs will be conducted for staff involved in the procurement process. This will ensure that sustainable procurement principles are well understood and consistently applied.
  • Collaboration and Engagement: KIIT Deemed to be University will collaborate with other institutions, organizations, and governmental bodies to share best practices and foster sustainability initiatives in procurement.
  • Continuous Improvement: We will regularly review and update this policy to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with emerging sustainability trends and best practices.

Conclusions:

This Sustainable Procurement Policy reflects KIIT Deemed to be University’s commitment to incorporating sustainability principles into its procurement practices.This policy will be reviewed annually by the University Committee on Sustainability and Equity. This policy is disseminated to all the internal and external stakeholders of the University including students, faculties, staff members, recruiters, alumni, parents. This policy is also informed to all the contractors and vendors associated with delivery of goods and items to the University.
