Life at KIIT is more than just lectures and study sessions. Students get a plenty of excuses to take a well-earned break from books. Our packed calendar of events and activities means a new friend is never far away.
At KIIT, students have a meaningful learning experience while enjoying all that university life has to offer. University is important, but it should also be a time to make friends and have great experiences outside the classroom. That's why – along with libraries, lecture theaters and Wi-Fi hotspots – all of our campuses offer places to socialise, get a coffee and hang out during leisure. Soaking up the university atmosphere, meeting friends and reflecting on your classes are valuable take- aways of the student experience.
Its our priority to ensure that all students make a smooth transition to university and don't feel alone. KIIT's orientation program includes workshops, social events, study groups and opportunities to get you involved in campus life. Participating in these activities ensure you make a successful start to studying at KIIT.
Student friendly and Parent Friendly
Since its inception, focus of KIIT has been on student centric governance system. Entire system and structure of KIIT has evolved around this focus. The students are highly satisfied and disciplined due to its student friendly policies. Every staff of KIIT, from top to bottom, interacts with students and takes care of their concern in most friendly manner.
KIIT University is one of the early adopters of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) in the country, as per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines. It provides choice for students to select courses of their own choice – core, elective and minor – based on their interest, aptitude and career goals. Besides a wide range of courses to choose from, it ensures a holistic learning experience for the students.
KIIT actively promotes entrepreneurship among its students and youths at large. An Entrepreneurship Cell has been set up to provide guidance and resources to the students with interest and aptitude. As a result, KIIT students have good track record of entrepreneurial success. Similarly, KIIT Technology Business Incubator (TBI) offers incubation facilities for new ideas through various stages of entrepreneurial development. About 35 enterprises have successfully graduated from KIIT-TBI, while many others are in the process. KIIT-TBI is supported by DST and various other bodies of Govt. of India.
Ample opportunity is provided by KIIT to the students to involve in research and development activities. The University has taken steps to build and nurture a culture of research & development and innovation. Centre for Scientific Research and Central Advanced Research Centre (CARC) has been established to provide impetus to research and development activities, both by faculty and students. Students of KIIT have the distinction of being appreciated at national and international forum for their research projects. In recent years, KIIT team have emerged as a strong contender in the prestigious automobile design competitions organized by BAJA SAE as well as prestigious Aeronautical Design competition, 'Aero Design West'. Numerous research papers authored by students have been published in reputed national and international journals.
KIIT has a 'Tutor-Mentor Programme', in which a teacher is placed as a mentor of a small group of students, enhances the all round development of the students by ensuring an appropriate classroom environment, broadening curriculum participation and strengthening the bond between the students and the teachers. Mentors provide emotional as well as academic support, guidance, motivation, pose themselves as ideal role models for the mentees and also help them in their career growth.
1.0 Mentoring System
The KIIT deemed to be University has institutionalized the Tutor- Mentor system since 1997, the year of establishment as institution. In the system the student is termed as mentee and the faculty member as mentor.

Excerpts from the Guidelines for tutor mentors
1.1 Background
Effective and Close teacher-learner interaction has proved to be a key factor in learning and success of a student. In recognition of this, The KIIT University has institutionalized the Tutor-Mentor system since the beginning. In the system the student is termed as mentee and the faculty member as mentor. This document prescribes the guidelines for the mentors towards effective mentoring. In this section the generic issues to be addressed by mentors are furnished. An overall introduction to category of mentors is also furnished.
1.1.1 The Issues
Academics (regarding the status of classes, attendance, course progress, difficulties in understanding the subjects of study, registration, marks etc.)
Career (issues relating to placement / higher studies / entrepreneurship)
Emotion (issues relating to anyone in family/friends or a person whom he/she gives the utmost importance, quarrel/misunderstandings, money, recent happenings etc.)
Discipline (altercations/fights, threats, bunking, fines, complaint from the hostel/teachers etc)
Grievances (regarding any problem faced by the student during and/or after the classes which may not be addressed properly)
Any other issue(s) not coming under the above categories.
1.1.2 Mentor
The mentors are to take care of the following activities related to the mentees: Registration, Academic information, interaction with guardians, attendance status, health conditions, general conduct and etiquettes, Brand awareness promotion. They are the first tier contacts to receive and initiate appropriate steps towards grievance redressal.
Mentor Counselling Committee: The senior mentors are supposed to groom mentors and counseling mentors. They may conduct sessions/workshops periodically towards ensuring effective mentoring program.
1.2 Mentor's Appointment
At the beginning of the academic year, the Dean/Director of the Schools will notify the mentors, counseling mentors and senior mentors from among the faculty members of the school. Following guidelines may be followed during mentors' appointment.
- For a group of students a faculty may be nominated as mentor. The head of the school may nominate a demonstrator only if he/she is sure of potential of the demonstrator to work as an effective mentor.
- The group size for undergraduate students should preferably be thirty. Deans / Directors are however empowered to choose the group size.
- For female students, in no case a male faculty member will be nominated as mentor.
- The head of school will nominate counseling mentors from among the faculty. The faculty member with good rapport establishing skills and rational decision making skills may be preferred.
- The number of counseling mentors will be one for a student group size of 200.
- Senior mentors will be nominated by the Head of Schools from among the senior professors.
1.3 Mentors' Responsibilities
To ensure a cooperative and supportive environment to the mentees towards facilitating learning and engagement in active scholastic work.

- To hold frequent and regularly scheduled meetings with the mentees and make himself/herself available or accessible for the mentees as often as needed.
- To keep the guardians informed on student's academic progress, attendance and discipline related issued (if any).
- To keep the students and guardians informed of organizational achievements.
- To help the mentees develop a thorough understanding of the academic programs and the required regulations.
- To identify opportunities for students to disseminate their skill in discipline specific or extra-curricular activities.
- To provide direction to enhance and reinforce the mentee's discipline specific or interdisciplinary methods and skills.
- To identify need of counseling and arrange regular interaction with the counseling mentors. The number of mentees in need of counseling should not be more than 1/4th of group size
1.4 Documentation Requirement

Number of students per mentor: 25-30
Frequency of meeting: 1/Month (every 2nd Saturday of the month) with the group.
Further, as and when required the mentees as well as Tutor Mento can conduct meetings.
Efficacy of the System: The mentoring activities lead to multiple outcomes across a broad spectrum of activities. The mentee-mentor relationship can be complex and thus efficacy is not easily measurable. The University collects feedback from mentees on mentors and also from mentors on mentees. The efficacy is assessed from the following parameters.

KIIT, which initiated implementation of SAP in a bid to improve campus life and add value to the governance system, has gone live with SAP-MM, FI, HR, Student Life Cycle Management (SLCM), EP, PI, FSS, MSS, ESS, SSS, and BIBO Modules in all its schools and offices in one go. With this, KIIT has become the only university in India to use SAP in all processes in all schools in one go. It has joined top 100 universities of the world to run SAP to simplify and digitize their schools, as informed by Global Vice President of SAP, Dr. Malcolm J. Woodfield. Implemented and managed by Enterprise Applications Management (EAM) Division of KIIT, this highly successful project is a milestone contribution towards the 'Digital India' initiative.
Students of KIIT get unmatched exposure by attending and interacting with eminent academicians, legal luminaries, corporate leaders, policy makers and scientists, who come to attend numerous academic conferences, seminars and workshops organized round the year. So far, 18 Nobel Laureates visited KIIT and delivered talks under Nobel Lecture Series and KIIT Knowledge Tree, which are unique initiatives to provide exposure to students.
Ample opportunity is provided by KIIT to the students to involve in research and development activities. The University has taken steps to build and nurture a culture of research & development and innovation. Centre for Scientific Research and Central Advanced Research Centre (CARC) has been established to provide impetus to research and development activities, both by faculty and students. Students of KIIT have the distinction of being appreciated at national and international forum for their research projects.
In recent years, KIIT team have emerged as a strong contender in the prestigious automobile design competitions organized by BAJA SAE as well as prestigious Aeronautical Design competition, 'Aero Design West'. Numerous research papers authored by students have been published in reputed national and international journals.
Every programme is designed to ensure that students achieve a desired level of knowledge, skill and attitude specific to a particular area and domain. Potential employers, faculty, alumni and students are consulted regularly to update the course structure and curriculum.
The objectives of each course and their sequential delivery are designed in such a way that the program outcome is achieved. A balanced mix of full-time and visiting faculty, class-room and lab/field level learning, and internal and external assessment leads to the achievement of intended learning outcomes.
Project-based Learning System at KIIT involves an optimum combination of classroom lecture and innovative teaching pedagogy such as Live Industry Projects, Simulation Process, Role Play, Case Study Presentations, Seminars, Business Exercises, Group Discussions, Field Activities, Research Activities, Industrial Visits, Projects and Dissertations, Use of Reverse Teaching Methods, Tutor Mentor Scheme and 'Earn while You Learn' Scheme. KIIT proactively nurtures students' creativity through:
- Student Research Cell for innovative research
- Encouragement to write and present research papers
- Academic seminars, workshops and conferences
- Financial support to participate in innovative competitions
- Financial support to present paper in national and international conferences
- Student societies and professional chapters
- Invited lectures by experts from academic and corporate sector.
